BOOK JAISON
a little bookshop, and a little more.
Book Jaison is an independent bookshop built around books, reading, and the many ways we can experience them. At heart, we are a bookshop. We sell books and bring them closer to readers through our collection, fairs, exhibitions, and other places where we can meet people who love to read, since 2022.
But we never wanted Book Jaison to end at the transaction. We want it to be a place where books are discovered, discussed, enjoyed, written about, and remembered. That is why, alongside our books, we create and curate things that extend the reading experience.
The publication of Patirtis, our quarterly literary magazine, has been revolutionary in unlocking the writer persona for those we have had the pleasure of working with across its past editions. It has given us the opportunity to encounter new voices, bring their work together, and give their writing a place to be read.
To make reading cute, we also create book journals that let readers interact with what they read; share book reviews and insights; and make room for interviews, conversations, and book-club experiences around books and reading.
In other words, the bookshop is where we begin, not where we stop. We call this Beyond the Bookshelf — the part of Book Jaison where we explore everything that can happen around a book once it leaves the shelf. We also believe there is something uniquely valuable about the act of reading itself.
When we read, we choose the face, build the scene, hear the voice, and imagine the world in our own way.
The author gives us the story. The reader completes the world.
The freedom to imagine is one of the reasons we believe books are necessary — not because they are the only way to experience stories, but because they leave a little space for us inside them.
So, at its simplest, Book Jaison is a bookshop.
Our larger vision is to build a small, warm world around books — one where you can find a book, discover something worth reading, spend time with a story, share it with others, and perhaps find your way to another one. Based in Patkui, we are still growing into what this can become. For now, we are happy to begin with books. And see where they take us.
